service
As the Area Head of Painting and Drawing at the University of Iowa, I have dedicated significant time and effort to fostering an environment of academic and creative excellence. Over the years, I have chaired more than 15 MFA committees and served on numerous others, guiding graduate students through their critical phases of academic and artistic development. Additionally, I have advised over 25 BFA student exhibitions, ensuring that our undergraduate students are well-prepared for their transition into professional practice or further academic pursuits.
Recognizing the importance of efficient communication and time management, I have implemented a system of shared documents within our department. This initiative has streamlined email communication, allowing faculty to focus more on classroom instruction and research. By reducing the administrative burden, this system has contributed to increased morale among faculty members and has enhanced the overall educational experience for our students.
In my role, I have also been actively involved in recruiting and engagement efforts aimed at maintaining and growing a diverse student population. I have worked to attract students from various backgrounds, ages, and skill sets, understanding that a diverse cohort enriches the learning environment and prepares our students to thrive in an increasingly global and interconnected world.
My commitment to service extends beyond the classroom and into the broader university and community. I have served in multiple capacities, including as a member of the Tenure Review Committee, the Five Year Strategic Planning Committee, and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Executive Committee, among others. These roles have allowed me to contribute to the strategic direction of the university and advocate for initiatives that support diversity and inclusion across our campus.
I am proud of the service I have provided to the University of Iowa, both within our department and across the wider university community. My efforts have been aimed at not only advancing our program but also ensuring that we continue to cultivate a supportive and dynamic environment for our students, faculty, and staff.
